At Home: Jeannie Vincent

At Home is about self-care. We're asking some of our favorite people what's keeping them well.

Jeannie Vincent is a licensed esthetician, clean beauty advocate, and Covet + Lou's go-to makeup artist.

Where is home for you right now?

I live on the north shore of Boston in Marblehead, MA. I fell in love with this charming coastal town while living in a neighboring area. I’m in a sunny one-bedroom apartment with my cat, Dorian.

What are you doing to keep calm?

Cooking has been my go-to for keeping myself busy and my mind occupied. It’s a great source of inspiration as well, there is such beauty in creating nourishing meals for yourself, and often the end result is quite beautiful itself. I also picked up my watercolors again which has been extremely calming before bed. There are tons of great tutorials online, but sometimes it’s fun just to play and let the paint run where it wants to run.

What are you watching / reading / listening to?

Watching: Always watching the Bon Appetit YouTube channel. Also prior to about a month ago I had never watched Drag Race, so I’ve been plowing through that catalog and am almost to Season 10. Obviously I binged Tiger King which I found highly entertaining.

Reading: I’ve mainly been reading cookbooks (the food obsession is real), and most recently picked up Cool Beans by Joe Yonan.

Listening: As for music, I’ve been really into classic, smooth R&B like Anita Baker. When I need to dance off my worries, it’s Dua Lipa all the way.

What are some self-care tips you can recommend to others right now?

One tip I love is to transform your shower into a spa-like experience by dropping some eucalyptus essential oil in any areas where the water won’t immediately run it off. Think far corners of the shower, tops of the tub and tub spout. The steam from the hot shower will fill the room, creating a simultaneously relaxing yet invigorating sensorial experience. Eucalyptus is helpful for the respiratory system, allowing you to breathe more deeply. I’ve also been leaning on my body scrubs to slough off the day and make my skin feel healthy and renewed, a couple times a week. A personal favorite is Herbivore’s Amethyst (containing crushed amethyst crystal), originally gifted to me by a friend and since purchased 4x. And year round but especially in times of heightened cold, flu, and other illnesses, I’m a big fan of hot lemon water. I halve a lemon and squeeze it about halfway, sprinkle with cayenne pepper and ground ginger and fill with hot water. When I’m finished with the first cup, I squeeze out the rest of the lemon and fill again with hot water. This alkalizes the body and gives your immunity a much needed boost.

Beauty/skincare products you have been using at home?

I am a diehard devotee of Living Libations, and the Rose Best Skin Ever is my favorite multitasker. It works as a makeup remover, skin cleanser, and moisturizer and smells incredible. I’m also head over heels for the Henné Organics Lip Mask. It has the loveliest herbal aroma and is truly nourishing. No matter how much water we may drink, our lips don’t produce their own moisture so they can always use a little extra boost. And what better way to relax than with a warm *cashmere* eye compress? A true everyday luxury, Bodha’s Aromatherapy Eye Pillows are really coming in clutch these days.

I have this Lauren Manoogian Fringe Scarf in grey but this pale yellow Maize color is perfect for spring. The quality of the knit is second to none, super soft and luxurious—one of my favorite purchases to date. I’m also really into all of the Black Crane linen pieces, I got the Box Top in both colors. And for beauty (which is probably what you want to know!), I can’t get enough of the Manasi 7 All Over Colors, which you can use for eyes, lips, and cheeks. I’m partial to Ikura, a scarlet coral, but you can’t go wrong with any of the colors.
