Rachel Comey’s SS24 Ode to Multimedia Artist Joan Jonas

Rachel Comey needs no introduction at Covet + Lou, but perhaps you’re unfamiliar with multimedia artist Joan Jonas. Jonas’s career begins in the 1960s and ‘70s in New York City as one of the first artists at this time to work in performance and video art. This Spring (starting March 17th and stretching until July 6th- mark your calendars) we’ll have a chance to see Joan Jonas: Good Night Good Morning at the MoMA, a retrospective of the artist’s work spanning across drawings, photographs, notebooks, film screenings, performances, and a selection of installations.
But now back to Comey's collaboration in anticipation of the retrospective…
Comey’s SS24 collection draws directly from Jonas’s archives. As Vogue puts it, the whole collection feels like “woman-to-woman inspiration.” If you know Comey, her collab with Jonas doesn’t feel too surprising either. Both woman are like “kindred spirits across generations, both reluctant to be hemmed in by their retrospective industry’s rules (Vogue).”
Jonas, 87, was at Comey’s runway show getting pics with her phone of every look. The collaboration is getting picked up by fashion Substack "it-girls" too. Hello, Laura Reilly's Magasin. (See mention under The Weekly by Magasin News Editor, Em Seely-Katz.)

The image above comes from an article by Tate and is a great interview-style read if you want to learn more about Jonas. She lists the paintings by Kerry James Marshall as one of the artworks she would save in the world if she could only save three. (We're fans).
We’re excited to have Joan Jonas x Rachel Comey pieces join our Newton Highlands shop and site:
