Upstate

Astrid Chastka and Kalen Kaminski founded Upstate in the fall of 2010 after discovering a friend’s homemade Shibori tapestry. The pair took to YouTube to learn about Shibori, a Japanese tradition of dyeing cloth, and began making scarves. They’ve since expanded their technique to new forms of dye art and evolved the brand into a full line of easy to wear, multi-functional apparel items that can be worn to work, out at night, to the beach and even to sleep. Upstate is dyed and sewn in New York with a thorough consideration of the environment and sustainability.

Why we Covet: Not your mama's tie-dye, Upstate has a very cool interpretation of an age old treatment process that results in, among other things, some kickass throw pillows.
