Designers Don Carney and John Ross established PATCH NYC in the fall of 1997 with a collection of hand-detailed hats. Inspired by a hat John’s mom, Yasuko, made for her son’s first New York winter, the designers created a collection using hand-dyed wool from the Union Square Farmers market and vintage buttons for embellishment. Scarves, handbags, and more followed, as the pair became known for their vintage embroidery, appliqué and beading techniques, and unpredictable color palette. Today, the brand has evolved into a lifestyle studio creating original art and designing collections of home decor and fashion accessories, with collaborators that have included West Elm, Anthropologie, and Astier de Villate.
Why we Covet: John and Don have a talent for reinventing the old as something new and fresh.
